Greetings from Geralyn
Greetings from Geralyn, a simple girl, who grew up on the Jersey Shore. Little did she know that the dreams she had growing up, would all come true. She believed growing up in America was the best life, full of oppportunity. And, she showed up and lived life to the fullest in an area that offered the best opportunities to experience Broadway and live music at local bars. Not to mention towns that would still welcome game day with a band marching down a main street. Not only was she able to buy records at the Mall every Monday after a weekend of babysitting, but there was the wheel of chance at Point Pleasant beach she could win her favorite CD. She was a little too young to experience the most famous groups and bands in the beginning when they played local bars. But, she was able to experience live music at an early age. In 1977 she turned eighteen and that was the drinking age for New Jersey. She worked every weekend, and was able to see her favorite bands after work. Also, Wednesday and Thursday were the best bands in the area. Her favorites were the Courteous Drivers at the Parker House, Holme at the Royal Manor for happy hour (50 cent drinks) Wednesday nights and who could forget Fresh at the Shipwheel Inn every Thursday night. And, almost every night was closed out with the playing of Freebird. She was living the American dream.......a freebird. I hope you will follow along on her journey as she will share with you her first record player and how it changed her world. How she could feel sad or lonely and put record on and her mood could instantly change. Her first car purchase, when her dad got mad, because all she cared about was if the radio worked. Then, being able to afford a car with an eight track player. And, then the CD came along and made music more convenient. The first stereo system she bought to have in her dorm room. Her first house was located on the same block as the Osprey in Manasquan. Her first nine years of marriage were spent in that house. Occasionally a Sunday could be spent at the beach in the morning and the afternoon at the Osprey with one of the best house bands ever: Salvation! She raised twins about six blocks west on a quieter street. But, somehow, someway we as a family they were able to go see a Broadway play together in NYC almost every year. Seeing Disney's Beauty and the Beast, The Music Man, Chicago, Spamelot, Hairspray (with Darlene Love). Then, there was the first concert they all went together as a family was to Red Hot Chili Peppers ( the Snow video was filmed at this show). And, then there was her birthday they saw Fleetwood Mac at Madison Square Garden.
She owned a store in Convention Hall in Asbury Park from 2011-2016. The amount of music she was exposed to and Artists who walked in the door of her store still is a story in itself. The thing she is most grateful for is the amount of recording artists she listened to as a child are still rocking now. Her taste didn't really change. She prefers rock and roll over country. But, as she is growing older, that is starting to change. Because, country music is Americana at it's best. So many changes have happened since the computer, and this will show how recording artists have had to find different ways to make a living. The last few years have shown the importance of live music to make a living and, now with covid, it has become extremely difficult. This should be interesting to see what comes with this. I often hear how the Roaring Twenties came from the hard times of a pandemic. So, we shall see.
Quote of the day: Kid Rock If it looks good, you'll see it. If it sounds good, you'll hear it. If its marketed right, you'll buy it. But... If its real... you'll feel it.
Song of the day: Kid Rock Rockin' (John Eddie shared this new song on his facebook page)
