So, How Did I Get Here?

I used to write about how did I actually open a store, and end up in Convention Hall, a lot. After Superstorm Sandy I wrote about how do I finally make a dream a reality, and be taken down by something not in my control. Well, I think that is where a fairy tale is involved. There is always a wolf at hand to huff and puff and blow your plans down. But, in the mean time if you make decisions based on faith rather then fear you can make dreams happen. I think being at an age when TV was invented played a big part of my inspiration. And, Disney was the king of inspiration. But, he sugarcoated everything. But, at the same time in almost every story there was always the villian, or something to be afraid of. My first introduction to Disney was not TV, it was the movies at the movie theatre. And, then it was records! And, best of all it was played in my room and I didn't have to bother anyone with it. At the age of eight we were traveling a lot with my dad's hobby/business. He collected rocks and minerals. He made jewelry and bolo ties. And, we traveled almost every weekend. He was an electrical engineer, but this was his side hustle. That became our side hustle, too. We all were in it until we entered high school, and then my dad preferred to do flea markets and antique shows closer to home. But, in 1967 I begged my dad to fill up his tank of gas at a Gulf station. So, I could buy a Disney record for a dollar. I had a red and white stripe portable record player ready at home to play it. It was called "The Happiest Songs of Disney". When asked what was my first vinyl record? I would always think of the record my brother gave me for my birthday. It was "Brothers and Sisters" by the Allman Brothers, which came out in 1973. But, having the store triggered the memory of the Disney records. And, someone I was neighbor vendor with at a craft show, shipped me a box of Disney records, when I had the store. (Thank you Wanda). Disney records usually had a book attached, so these also were my favorites to make scrapbooks out of, too. But anyway, the next few posts will be about Disney records and how they inspired me. And, not only inspire me, but make me happy. And, when it comes right down to it, it is what makes America great. It is goodness at it's best. Good clean fun, with nothing to feel guilty about. It is a reflection of our times, and would make everything seem alright in the end. And,in all the stories, good would end up overcoming evil. Quote of the day: “Music resonates in so many parts of the brain that we can’t conceive of it being an isolated thing. It’s whom you were with, how old you were, and what was happening that day.” — David Byrne Song of the Day: Once in a Lifetime by David Byrnes Great article about this song and it's lyrics:
