Deja Vu
Yesterday Graham Nash of the Hollies and Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young turned 80 years old. My store, Greetings from Geralyn, had only been open for a week. He walked in the door with his manager and he started flipping through the records. I had taken out some CSNY records and had them at the ready by the record player. I was playing Louis Armstrong when he had came through. He started asking questions...."How long have you been open?" "A week I replied". "You are so cool.......no I mean it you are really cool". I replied "thank you". Honestly I had to google them after he left so I knew which one he was. It was obvious he was Graham, because he had a camera around his neck. But, at the time I wasn't sure, which one was which. So, most of my conversation was with his manager, which was really interesting. He looks like a young David Crosby, but swore he was no relation. And, then we started talking about Jackson Browne, who he also manages. It was amazing, as I was hearing all of these stories as they talked back and forth as Graham started to talk about different Artists he was seeing on the covers. I was in rock and roll heaven. A customer walked in and recognized Graham and shook his hand and thanked him. He turned to me and said he couldn't believe this. I agreed! After he left, I walked over to the record player and put on a Crosby, Stills and Nash Record. Graham then looked up and said, "I liked what you had on when I walked in". I said I would change it. It was too late, he was on his way out the door. But, he again told me he loved the shop and to keep on with it.
Later, we went to dinner across from the shop, so we could keep an eye on it. I was still excited about the day, and noticed the manager walk into the store. I was already exclaiming what could be better then eating dinner, watching your shop and hearing Crosby, Stills and Nash through the walls of Convention Hall?
I ran over to see the manager and he said it took awhile, but he had two tickets for us to see the show. Wow! We had pretty decent seats for a sold out show. One of things I remember the most was Graham Nash introducing the song Marakesh Express and how young he was when he wrote it. He also said how he wanted to record it with the Hollies, but they didn't like the song. It was the first song Crosby, Stills and Nash recorded and it had great success. Happy 80th Birthday Graham Nash. Cheers!
Quote of the day: There are always new things to experience, internalize then write about. This process is ongoing with me. It never stops. The opportunity to reach new audiences with all of the music that we have made is thrilling.
